⚾ Hillsboro Hops

Debuting in 2026, Hillsboro Ballpark is the home of the only professional baseball team in the Willamette Valley, the Northwest League’s Hillsboro Hops. The venue seats around 6,000 fans and serves as the replacement of the team’s former stomping grounds across the street.

Known for most of its history as Ron Tonkin Field, the old ballpark opened in 2013 and was only used by the franchise for 13 seasons before their literal hop to greener pastures following the conclusion of the 2025 campaign. Major League Baseball’s hardline requirements for player facilities was the catalyst for the quick replacement, one of the fastest turnarounds for a new venue in all of sports.

Hillsboro Ballpark is emblematic of the modern minor league trend, a simple 360-degree park with a suite level and right-field berm. This area is sandwiched between a massive playground that sits behind it and the pitchers’ bullpens in front, which swallow up plenty of space and push the sightlines further back. Aside from hops-shaped lanterns and some fake ivy that decorates the concourse-level suites, there’s hardly anything to distinguish the stadium from its worryingly cookie-cutter peers. The venue draws some inspiration for fan entertainment from other minor league parks, incorporating things like Nashville’s mini golf and Birmingham’s picnic table greenspace.

The food options, on the other hand, are exquisite and vary immensely. Birria nachos, Spam Musubi bowls, smoke tri-tip sandwiches, turkey caprese sandwiches, Hawaiian plates, elotes and offerings from the Portland Cider Co. are among some of the many concession choices.

The affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks since their relocation from Yakima, the Hops have secured three Northwest League trophies since their first season in Oregon. All three came during the circuit’s short-season era, which came to an end when it was promoted to the High-A level in 2021.

A direct replacement for the Portland Beavers – an insanely historic Triple-A club that twirled in the town for over a century before moving away – the Hops have carried the torch for baseball in the Rose City. Now, thanks to their new ballpark and resulting bright future, the team has set the stage for possible Major League expansion to the city of Portland.
