Arriving in the Hoosier State in the middle of a cold March night in 1984, the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts played at the RCA Dome for 24 seasons before settling down in 2008 inside the brick and limestone walls of Lucas Oil Stadium. The third-largest venue in the NFL, the colossal building can hold more than 67,000 spectators and is equipped with a retractable roof, making it a truly world-class facility that has brought the world to Indy’s doorstep time and time again.

As one of the most preeminent venues in not just the Midwest, but really the entire nation, Lucas Oil Stadium has more major events more often than almost anywhere else. The venue has hosted the Super Bowl, several Final Fours, Olympic swimming trials, Big Ten football and basketball tournaments, the College Football Playoff National Championship, international soccer matches and is the longtime home of the NFL Combine.

Echoing the farmhouse architecture found all across the Midwest, the stadium’s immense barn-like design gives it character and adds local charm. The north end is complete with a huge retractable window, offering sweeping views of the city skyline and occasionally letting in a cool Indiana breeze.

Race cars and trucks are prevalent on the concourses – both life-size and in miniature – a nod to stadium sponsor Lucas Oil, which is based in Indianapolis and is a key player in the motorsports world. It’s a fun bit of local flair that ties in one of the major industries the region is known for.

Since planting their roots in Indiana, the Colts have enjoyed a relatively long period of success. They struggled immensely during the early years, but following the acquisition of Peyton Manning in 1998, the team would begin to see a shift in the tide. Led by capable coach Tony Dungy, the Colts would post some impressive records through the early 2000s, clinching their first-ever Super Bowl title in 2007.

The halls of Lucas Oil Stadium are adorned with larger than life images of Colts legends, honoring the ones who have brought glory to the franchise over the last few decades. Highlighted too are stunning and superb moments from throughout team history, many of which happened in this very building.
