⚾ Chattanooga Lookouts

A more than century-old fixture in Central Tennessee, the Chattanooga Lookouts of the Southern League are a historic ballclub named for nearby Lookout Mountain, itself a landmark of the region. Now, after several iterations and a small lineup of ballparks, Chattanooga is continuing to etch its place in the minor league history books from the new confines of Erlanger Park.

Closing out the 20th century from legendary Engel Stadium, the Lookouts moved to AT&T Field in 2000. Despite its downtown location and spectacular vistas, the venue eventually faced some major challenges. The limited footprint made parking and access difficult, while new MLB facility standards required improvements the ballpark could not easily accommodate. Rather than leave Chattanooga, the Lookouts remained in the city and opened Erlanger Park in 2026.

The Lookouts’ novel new abode is located in the South Broad District on the former site of the U.S. Pipe and Foundry Company. The original powerhouse, built in 1882, is three years older than professional baseball in Chattanooga and now serves as both an entrance and event space for baseball and non-baseball events. The Coca-Cola Pattern Shop, built a half-century later to store wood and molds, was also repurposed to house a food hall and the team offices. Both historic buildings can also host indoor live music performances during the offseason, giving the ballpark and surrounding area a life beyond baseball.

The ballpark features suites along the left-field line, as well as the Kubota Batter’s Eye Club and rooftop, where fans can take in views of nearby Lookout Mountain. Fans wishing to enjoy an adult beverage can head to the Rock City Right Field Bar Club. Named after one of Chattanooga’s most famous attractions, the bar is another great place to watch the game, catch a home run ball or perhaps play a game of cornhole. The ballpark holds just over 8,000 fans, but all of the seats are low and close to the action, providing great sightlines for Lookouts and visiting fans alike.

As the team continues to settle in, the area around Erlanger Park is envisioned to be transformed into a destination featuring apartments, retail and an extension of the Tennessee Riverwalk. The remarkable stadium continues the longstanding tradition of minor league baseball in Chattanooga, while giving the Lookouts a unique home designed to become a destination for fans.
