📍 Toronto, Ontario
⚾ Home of the Toronto Blue Jays
Rogers Centre is perhaps the most unique venues in all of Major League Baseball – and the world. With its one-of-a-kind dome and daunting views of Toronto’s emblematic CN Tower, a Blue Jays game at this modern marvel is an incredible experience from start to finish.
The Jays were an expansion franchise in 1977 and initially played at Toronto’s old Exhibition Stadium, a clunky multi-purpose venue that didn’t accommodate baseball well. The venue was designed for the Canadian National Exhibition and later for Canadian football, meaning the grandstands were not at all useful in a baseball diamond setup. Twelve years later, the team moved out and set up shop downtown at what was then known as the SkyDome. Although it too was a multi-purpose venue, it had vastly better sightlines for baseball and later would be completely reconfigured to be solely the home of the Blue Jays.

The most iconic feature of Rogers Centre is undoubtedly the enormous and extraordinary retractable roof, whose status makes a huge difference in the gameday experience. A closed dome equals a dim and almost sterile environment, while an open dome allows fans to enjoy the cool air off the lake and revel in the shadow of the looming CN Tower. While the vibes of an open-domed Rogers Centre are simply unmatched, the actual process by which it opens and closes is fascinating too. This 20-minute operation involves the three movable parts of the structure, which are peeled and rotated back to reveal the city skyline and the beautiful Ontario evening above. At night, the exterior of the dome is lit up in celebration of all sorts of different occasions, from holidays to festivals, but most commonly in Blue Jays royal blue.
Another amazing feature that you won’t find at any other ballpark: a hotel INSIDE the stadium. That’s right, for just $700-$900 CAD per night, you can enjoy a Blue Jays game from the comfort of your bed. Take an in-depth look at these fantastic rooms here.

Architectural oddities aside, Blue Jays games make for an amazing evening. Prior to the 7th-inning stretch is the playing of the opening verse of “OK Blue Jays“, a classic ’80s song written about the team. The whole ballpark sings it in refrain and, considering how catchy the tune is, it’s a magical moment. But the magic doesn’t end there – tons of photo ops await you in the newly-designed outfield areas, you can step out onto a gorgeous terrace to overlook part of the city and, should the Jays win, you’ll see the lights attached to the inside of the dome twinkle a special shade of blue.
Baseball fan or not, a Blue Jays game at the one-and-only Rogers Centre is one of the most exciting attractions in the Six.
