📍 Greenville, South Carolina
🏒 Home of the Greenville Swamp Rabbits
Formerly the BI-LO Center, Greenville’s Bon Secours Wellness Arena opened in 1998 as the multi-purpose entertainment hub of the Upstate. Really nothing more than your basic Southern hockey arena, the venue was once the largest in South Carolina and is home to minor league hockey’s Greenville Swamp Rabbits.

The city’s first hockey team was the Greenville Grrrowl, an ECHL club that existed from the arena’s opening until the franchise folded in 2006. The league continued to be present in the city thanks to the relocation of the Johnstown Chiefs in 2010, who moved down south to become the Greenville Road Warriors. In 2015, the team was renamed the Swamp Rabbits to give them a more local appeal.
Unfortunately, throughout their time in the Upstate, the Rabbits have suffered tragically poor attendance. Although their arena seats close to 14,000 fans, the Rabbits are lucky to get just a few thousand on any given night. As a result, black tarps permanently cover most of the upper deck during hockey events.

The Rabbits don’t have a whole lot to write home about either, having only won two division titles throughout their history. In the postseason, the team has advanced as far as the 3rd round of the playoffs, falling short on both occasions that they’ve done so.
Besides hockey, Bon Secours has been home to several arena football teams and even an NBA G-League team for a few seasons. The venue is also known as a perennial host of women’s college basketball, with fans often filling up to the rafters for the highly-anticipated SEC Tournament each spring. The men’s basketball program from Furman University plays select games at the arena as well.
