⚾ Home of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders
Inaugurated in 1989 as the home of the Triple-A Red Barons, PNC Field – or as it was then known, Lackawanna County Stadium – is a minor league facility that has evolved over the years, though it has always remained the epicenter of baseball in the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre region.
With its tenant a Phillies farm team when it was built, the ballpark was designed to mimic the architecture and layout of Veterans Stadium down in Philadelphia. The result was a towering two-tiered venue, reminiscent of Richmond’s Diamond, and bright green turf.

In 2007, the franchise switched affiliation to the Yankees and, five years later, PNC Field was completely overhauled. The essentially rebuilt park reopened for the 2013 season, which also saw the hometown team rebrand as the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders to coincide with the ushering in of the new era.
In its present form, the ballpark is far more aligned with some of its modern peers, with a wraparound concourse, unobstructed views of the field and plentiful social and group spaces. The aesthetic, too, matches the contemporary style prevalent across the minor leagues – with a few added touches. Along the concourse, standing room food ledges are made of solid granite, while the outfield walkway abuts a rocky outcropping and a grove of oak trees sprouts up out of the right field berm.

As a longtime affiliate of the Phillies, the team known as the Red Barons had limited success, snatching a few Division Titles over the years. Since becoming the Yankees’ top-level club, however, the franchise has seen some wild returns, securing two International League titles and winning the Triple-A Championship in 2016.
