📍 Chapel Hill, North Carolina
⚾ Home of North Carolina Tar Heels baseball
Nestled in the forests of Chapel Hill and featuring a capacity of around 5,000, the University of North Carolina’s Boshamer Stadium is certainly one of the more quaint ACC ballparks. The brick-clad venue blends in with the rest of the UNC campus, an easy-on-the-eyes stadium surrounding a field that’s been home to the Diamond Heels for more than half a century.

The original Boshamer Stadium first opened in 1972, replacing multi-purpose Emerson Field as the home of Tar Heels baseball. The ballpark was named in honor of Cary C. Boshamer, a UNC alum and textile tycoon from Gastonia whose contributions aided in the venue’s construction. The original facility had a seating capacity of 3,000 and hosted five ACC Tournaments, in addition to seeing the Heels make five College World Series appearances.
The ballpark itself was almost entirely rebuilt in 2008, reopening just in time for the 2009 season. This new seating structure features primarily chairbacks, a drastic improvement over the bleachers that made up most of the old grandstand. A new student seating area, called the “Bosh Pit”, also debuted.

Signs hanging from the rafters all around the concourse highlight some of the greatest accomplishments of Diamond Heels teams from years past, but the Hall of Honor on the third base side is where the true Carolina baseball lore resides. In this museum-like space, fans can find informative plaques alongside memorabilia from the program’s 12 trips to Omaha, more than three dozen appearances in the NCAA Tournament and 8 ACC Tournament titles. The Hall also has an area dedicated to former Tar Heels who have gone on to star in Major League Baseball, like Zac Gallen, Andrew Miller and Kyle Seager.
Boshamer Stadium is really a top-notch facility, a comfortable ballpark adorned in baby blue and the school’s iconic diamond argyle pattern. For the Carolina faithful, this is the sacred ground where history is made as the Diamond Heels successfully push for the postseason year after year.
